Crabtree Needs to Sign Now

Are you serious Michael Crabtree?

The guy is damanding to be paid more than DHB who was picked pick Oakland ahead of him. He is threatening to haldout and re-enter the draft next year! WOW

First off, holding out and re-entering the draft next year would be catastrophic from a number of standpoints.

1. Who is gonna draft a guy with a first round pick when he has proven to be a tough guy to sign? Who would risk throwing a pick away like that? As a result the lower pick would result in substantially lower $$.

2. What about all the money he stands to lose over the next year as a result? You are talking about millions that he just can’t make back up over his career.

3. There is talk about rethinking the way rookies are awarded these massive contracts when they are unproven. This would free up more $$ for proven veterens. This could happen soon as well.

Couple all these things together and Crabtree is looking at the potential to lose 10’s of millions over his career.

So let’s go back to the major sticking point. He feels his talent is far better than DHB and he should have been a top 5 pick. Well, that just doesn’t fly. You are picked where you are picked, end of story. If you were that good then obviously the cream rises to the top. Why do you think detroit picked calvin so high last year after all their failures with high receiver picks. He was just impossible to pass on.

So Crabtree, take my advice, sign the fair contract that you have been offered, get into camp, prove you can play, then hold out for a better contract once you can prove you are underpaid!

Is Tom Brady a top 5 pick?

Here’s the deal, 2 years ago he chucked 50 t.d.’S and ran for 2. That is a massive amount of points. So much in fact that the second place finished with 36.

Over the last 4 years the top qb’s have finished with 34, 36, 31, and 32 t.d.’s. A top 10 qb will average around 25 td’s. So, if Brady scores 50 touchdowns again, and the average top 10 competitor scores 25 then it looks like double to me. Factor in yards and you are not looking at double anymore but you can see the huge advantage.

Having Brady as your starting qb is like having 1.5 starting qb’s. There is downside though. In deeper leagues (leagues with more than 10 teams), and especially leagues with a flex rb/wr position in addition to the 2 rb requirement for starting, drafting a qb early can spell disaster for you running back depth.

…But having a consistent QB scoring over 3 td’s per week can overcome plenty of defficiencies.

The question is, how will Brady do this year?

Are you are numbers Person?

Are you a numbers person or a gut feel person?

All of us tend to think we are both, and you really have to be to be a sucessfull fantasy football drafter.  The problem is that it is tough to be both.  For instance, numbers would have told you a few years ago that brady and moss might have good years but moss would be a risk.  Gut feel would have told you that Brady is an excellent qb and Moss is an exceptional receiver.  Couple the 2 and you have a recipie for success.  In one of my leagues a number 3 pick used his 1st on Brady and 2nd on Moss.  Needless to say he ran away with the championship but left everyone at the draft scratching their heads.  On the flip side being a gut feel person gave him stephen jackson and a bunch of seahawks players last year which put the same person in last place!

Numbers and history are a good trend to establish a basis but ultimately you need to move guys up and down according to how you feel they will do.  …but don’t reach too much on too many players or you may end up in last place too.

Sunday Franchise Fantasy Football PodCast Episode #1 – RB’s and Draft Importance

Welcome to Sunday Franchise and the Sunday Franchise podcast!

Breaking Down Fantasy Football

In this episode I cover Drafting fundamentals.

Fantasy Football can be many things.  A fun hobbie, something to keep you interested in watching the NFL each and every Sunday.  It can be a way to have some fun with friends and keep in touch.  It can be a competitive outlet and a means to learn more and force yourself to stay on top of the NFL’s current events.  …and last but not least, it can be a constructive means of gambling spread out over 5 months.

Fantasy Football is one of the most popular and fastest growing interactive activities of it’s kind:

In 2007 the number of people playing fantasy football in the US topped 14 million, 15% of those being women.  The sport is growing so fast that the NFL has taken note.  Some stadiums like Miami’s are incorporating “fantasy lounges” where people can interact and receive updates on gameday.

This podcast is geared towards the fantasy draft which is the most important event in one’s fantasy football season.  Every pick will determine how your team competes for the entire year and typically these picks are done in an expedited fashion which imparts added pressure.  Sunday Franchise is here to help you prepare for the draft and make informed decisions all year.  Our draft preparation tool is second to none and will provide the latest news, information, and projections for every relevant offensive players in the league!

In addition I touch on the value of Runningbacks and why they should be the focus of every draft.
